In particular, students will develop the following knowledge, skills and values:
Understand the vast applicability of ICPs across context, scale and environment.
Understand the methods and technologies associated with present day ICPs.
Understand the current position of ICPs with the landscape design and construction industry, including associated users and uses interconnected in these processes.
Understand the existing design potentials offered through the use of ICPs.
Develop an awareness of the available ICP design tools available to landscape architects.
Understand the importance of ICPs to the look, feel, function and maintenance of beautiful, long-lasting and low impact landscape projects.
Recognize the impact material design decisions—most specifically related to hardscape elements—have on the design and construction of healthy, safe and enjoyable outdoor environments.
The focus of this course is to increase the understanding of current pressures, developments and uses of interlocking concrete pavements. Materials, techniques and milestones in contemporary design and construction at various scales will be covered.
Educators are encouraged to utilize this module as a supplemental resource for class use. It is expected that students can utilize the module both independently and also as part of class group exercises. Additionally, wiki-upload templates are provided as a means for students and educators to share their research and efforts.
This module provides enough materials for 1-2 weeks of instruction. The instructor is encouraged to use this module as a supplemental addendum to an existing curriculum or to combine this module with other modules to create curricular sets. Instructors are encouraged to integrate this module’s presentations, research projects, quizzes and exercises into class materials. The presentations and quizzes are self-guided, while the research projects and exercises are instructor-led. Completed research projects and exercises can be uploaded to the site’s ever-evolving wiki database.
