The goal of this project is to explore the inherent geometric and pattern potentials in segmental pavers through the use of abstraction.  Building on the objectives of ‘Abstraction-Forms,’ the objective of this project is to develop a pattern that abstracts and expresses site ‘readings’ related to the built environment such as ‘space,’ ‘path,’ ‘foci,’ and ‘threshold.’

See the ‘Place-Making Animation’ located on this site for additional information about these readings.  Through this project, the student should gain an understanding of how site information and perception can be communicated and distilled through the use of abstraction, and also how tools such as abstraction allow richness and variety to be constructed through the use of commonly available materials.
