The goal of this project is to explore the inherent geometric and pattern potentials in segmental pavers through the use of abstraction.  The objective is to develop a pattern that abstracts a work of art, a place, or other source of inspiration using as ‘building blocks’ the dimensions, colors, and finishes commonly found in segmental pavers.

In this project, do not worry about site considerations or context; these critical factors will be explored in the following studio abstraction exercises.  Through this project, the student should gain an understanding of how complex information can be distilled and communicated through the use of abstraction, and also how tools such as abstraction allow richness and variety to be constructed through the use of commonly available materials.
